Amla oil has been used in traditional Indian medicine for thousands of years. It comes from the Amla fruit, also known as the Indian gooseberry. Amla fruit grow on the Amalaki tree a species native to India and southeast Asia. The amla fruit has been a mainstay of Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years, with practitioners claiming that the super fruit imparts many health benefits.

Amla makes a great hair and scalp oil because it’s high in essential fatty acids, has vitamin C, flavonoids, polyphenols, and also contains protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and a number of free radical-fighting antioxidants. Amla fruit is also high in phytochemicals, which are plant compounds with antioxidant properties that help fight off harmful free radicals in the body.

Those with oily hair should apply Alma oil only to hair ends.  Apply after shampooing, as a conditioner, or you can try adding some to your favorite conditioner.  Amla also works as a leave-in or overnight conditioner, but make sure you put towels on your pillows or wear a shower cap to bed.  Wash out in the morning.

Amla Oil Can Help Stimulate Hair Follicles

Amla oil is also known for its cleansing properties, which help its ability to strengthen hair follicles. Some claim that these useful properties of Amla oil can help thicken up thinning hair and stimulate growth.

Amla (or Indian Gooseberry Oil) Helps with Premature Greying

Amla oil can help reduce the effects of premature greying.  It helps to naturally darken hair with extended use. Massage a small amount on the scalp and around the roots of hair.  Best to leave overnight, so make sure you put towels on your pillows or wear a shower cap to bed. Wash out in the morning.

I really like this organic amla oil for my biracial, curly hair, especially through my post-partum hair loss is suffered through. I mix this amla oil with other oils like jojoba or a bit of castor oil or with one of my conditioners before washing. This process has made my hair resilient, soft, and lustrous. There is a bit of a strong scent at first but it does was out.
